As an Advisor-Human Resources within our HR Labour and Employee Relations department, you will be responsible for providing support, guidance and advice to Senior Officers and Civilian Senior Managers, Uniform and Civilian Supervisors, on a range of processes, practices, and services within the Human Resources function, primarily related to sensitive workplace issues (complaints, conflicts), performance management and general employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, collective agreement provisions and policies.
What will your typical day look like?
Acts as key liaison between client departments (Senior Managers and Supervisors) and Human Resources to communicate key initiatives, issues and provide support for priorities and opportunities. Regularly meets with client departments to support proactive employee relations efforts.
Supports client departments by investigating issues of concern and provides guidance and advice to management and employees to resolve highly sensitive and confidential workplace issues, including workplace harassment complaints, complex accommodation, performance and disciplinary issues.
Supports client departments with change management processes and sensitive employee relations matters related to staffing/redeployment.
Participates in and monitors workplace resolution and restoration efforts (such as mediation, facilitated meetings or coaching) when employee concerns are identified (pre or post investigation).
Collaborates with the Performance & Learning unit as necessary to implement other possible interventions (which may include training). Provides advice and coaching for management members on work performance issues, providing guidance on the most appropriate course of action to support members to achieve optimum performance.
Collaborates with the Performance & Learning unit to provide support (for individuals, leaders or teams) which may include utilizing assessments, training, development tools, etc. to address client group needs.
Supports the Manager
- Labour & Employee Relations in maintaining and improving the Respectful Workplace Program, including assisting employees and management navigate the complaint process, investigating concerns and complaints as assigned, preparing a report of findings and recommendations and participating in complaint closure/implementing directed remedial measures.
Coordinates and prepares documentation associated with the Civilian disciplinary process; updates and maintains a tracking system of issued Civilian discipline to monitor consistency in the corrective action taken to address conduct and performance.
Collaborates/liaises with Human Resources functional area specialists (Total Rewards, Payroll, Benefits, Disability Management, Occupational Health & Safety) to obtain and disseminate information and facilitate implementation of decisions, awards, settlements and other resolutions.
Works collaboratively with the Manager, Labour & Employee Relations to analyze and research trends; collects information/statistics to support Human Resources decisions/positions on policy and contractual issues and maintains current knowledge of Human Resources best practices and policies.
Liaises with Association Representatives to exchange information and facilitate resolution of issues.
Creates guides and resource materials and participates in development and delivery of training/information sessions related to workplace harassment and discrimination, discipline, and other related matters.
Responds to inquiries from other Services and participates in committees which require employee and labour relations expertise.
Works with the Advisor - Labour Relations in the processing of grievances, including conducting research, assisting to gather background documentation, etc.
Acts as back-up for Advisor - Labour Relations as necessary and performs additional duties as assigned.

**You are someone with**:
A University Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations or Business Administration or equivalent; a professional Human Resources designation (Certified Human Resources Leader-CHRL) is required. Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution and certification or training in Workplace Investigations is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as a Human Resources (HR) generalist working in a large, complex unionized environment providing guidance and support to senior leadership on strategic HR initiatives and a broad range of HR practices including labour relations, workplace disputes and conflict resolution, compensation, organizational behaviour, employee engagement, accommodation and leadership development.
Exceptional communication, influence and relationship building skills and ability to communicate effectively including verbal, written and strong facilitation and presentation skills.
