Receptionist/animal Care Assistant

**North Oakville Animal Hospital (or NOAH as we love to say)**

**About the Role**
- The ability to strengthen the human-animal veterinary bond through exceptional care whether it is in person or on the phone. As well as the ability to handle upset or difficult clients in a tactful and respectful manner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. Great attention to detail, excellent organizational skills
- Prior knowledge of or the ability to learn medical terminology and veterinary software program.
- A sound knowledge base of routinely purchased foods, over the counter products and retail supplies
- The ability to schedule and confirm appointments, and complete patient recalls in a timely manner
- The ability to perform daily cash procedures such as open, close, and midday balancing checks
- Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and empathy are necessary.
- A good understanding of animal behaviour and proper restraint technique is paramount.
- Must be able to work with unpleasant noises and odours, and able to handle the sight of blood or bodily fluids. You may be exposed to contagious diseases and injury as a result of animal handling.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lb, bend frequently, and stand for extended periods of time.
- The ability to prepare, assist with or administer oral and topical medications; prepare prescriptions or assist in counting pills
- The ability to provide patient restraint for a variety of procedures (treatments, surgery, diagnostics)
- The ability to take dogs safely outside to eliminate as needed; closely monitors all hospitalized pets and immediately alerts technicians or veterinarians to any change in status; cleans pets and their bedding as needed (vomit, diarrhea, litter boxes etc.)
- The Understanding/principles of cleaning and disinfection and knows the appropriate products and contact time required; vacuum, dust, mop, etc. to ensure all areas of the hospital are kept clean, free of clutter, hazards, and foul or strong odours with particular attention paid to the consultation rooms, treatment area, surgical and radiology suites, and isolation room; maintains cleaning supplies and other supplies needed in afore mentioned areas
- The ability to receive and stock food and supply orders

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $15.50-$18.00 per hour

- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Weekends as needed

Supplemental pay types:

**Experience**:

- Receptionist: 1 year (preferred)
- Animal Care Assistant: 1 year (preferred)
