As a Community Peace Officer, you will play a critical role in making Canmore a place that is safe and enjoyable to live in and spend time in while enjoying the beautiful town every season while conducting motor vehicle, foot and bike patrols.
**Position Overview**: The Municipal Enforcement Community Peace Officer serves the community and visitors through educational and enforcement activities. All members of the team interact with the public in a professional and constructive manner, responding to inquiries and complaints by phone, online or in person. Active community patrols are conducted on foot, on bike, and by motor vehicle throughout the year, and collected information for enforcement and ticketing is entered into a database for analysis and reporting.
- As a member of a professional, fun, and dedicated team, you are tasked with building strong relationships in the community and developing respect and rapport with the diverse visitors and residents in the community through positive interactions. Keeping customer service and safety as the top priorities, you will be highly visible in the community while working collaboratively with other town departments and partner agencies to increase understanding and compliance with town bylaws and Provincial Statutes. Patience, respect, judgement, confidentiality, and discretion are a significant part of this job, as well as the ability to represent our organization in a positive manner at all times.
- Key activities for this position include: investigating bylaw complaints (the top 5 categories are parking traffic and road use, domestic animal control, clearing of sidewalks, wildlife attractants and waste and recyclables), conducting moving traffic and parking enforcement, reducing human wildlife conflict, understanding and mitigating concerns of the vanlife community, participating or assisting with community and public engagement events, liaising with other enforcement agencies, and being proactive and highly visible in the community throughout the year and especially on weekends when visitation increases substantially.

**You must have a Community Peace Officer Level 1 appointment or the ability to obtain an appointment in accordance with the Alberta Peace Officer Program Policy and sign an agreement with the Town to reimburse all costs incurred for Community Peace Officer Induction Training should the employment contract be terminated by the employee within 12 months of completing the training.**
**Core Accountabilities**:
- Acting as a service ambassador of the Town by conducting community outreach & education pertaining to municipal bylaws in the Town of Canmore
- Aligned activities within council priorities such as; downtown parking congestion, reducing human and wildlife interactions, vanlife understanding and mitigation.
- Enforce Municipal Bylaws and selected Provincial Statues as directed by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
- Proactively patrolling the Town of Canmore on foot/bike with emphasis on parking, paths & parks
- Investigate complaints and take appropriate action to resolve each situation
- Prepare for and attend Court as required
- Assist other Town departments with bylaw enforcement activities when requested
- Conduct regular proactive patrols by foot, vehicle or bicycle
- Complete and entre daily reports into the data entry system
**Education & Qualifications**:
- A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g. G.E.D.) - **_required_**:

- Conflict Resolution/Interest-Based Problem-Solving training - **_asset_**:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License - **_required_**:
