As a member of the Municipal Enforcement team, you will work both with a team and independently conducting parking enforcement and community engagement. You will be offering assistance in using our parking system and providing insight as to how the paid parking program benefits our community.

**Position Overview**: The Municipal Enforcement Officer serves the community of Canmore, residents and visitors, through highly visible educational and enforcement activities with an emphasis on parking. You will be responsible for performing community patrols in the town center, Quarry Lake, and in residential parking zones. This is a team environment that prompts independent work to enforce paid parking, resident permit parking, and other traffic and road use offenses; however, community engagement and public education are even bigger parts of this role. You will implement positive ticketing initiatives, and participate in public education drives, while also working collaboratively with other Town departments. In addition to community engagement and enforcement you will be assisting with the administrative processes for unpaid parking tickets. Confidentiality and discretion are significant parts of this role, as well as the ability to represent our organization in a positive manner.

Above all, conflict resolution and de-escalation of complaints in a constructive and personable manner is essential. You are a personable, patient, and independent worker that possess the physical ability and keen interest to conduct multi-hour patrols (over 20,000 steps daily) while balancing this with administrative duties.

**Core Accountabilities**:

- Provides information to residents and visitors about the town’s paid parking program
- Seeks to understand individual client needs and concerns and assists them to find the most appropriate solution or information
- Diffuses upset, anxious and/or angry clients and defers issues to the appropriate person for resolution if needed
- Acts as an ambassador of the Town of Canmore (“Town”) by conducting community outreach & education pertaining to paid parking and municipal parking bylaws in the Town
- Knows Canmore parking zones, common street names, important landmarks, and locations
- Is familiar with Town bylaws and specifically knowledgeable with bylaws related to parking
- Has a working knowledge of department related Provincial laws
- Prepares for and attends court as required
- Enforces other municipal bylaws as directed by the Supervisor of Municipal Enforcement

**Education & Qualifications**:

- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License - **required**:

- High School Diploma or equivalent - **required**:

- Formal training in Conflict Resolution (e.g., Verbal Judo or Customer Service & De-Escalation) - **asset**

**Experience**:

- Physically able to conduct long duration foot patrols (over 20,000 steps daily) in a variety of weather conditions - **required**:

- Excellent customer service, organizational, and time management skills -** required**:

- Experience managing conflict, proven Negotiation/Mediation skills - **required**:

- Basic skills with MS office and database entry - **required**:

- Ability to interpret legislation and municipal bylaws - **required**:

- Advanced communication skills - **required**:

- Previous experience with obtaining compliance in an enforcement or safety role such as lifeguard, security, or parking compliance/enforcement - **asset**

**Salary & Benefits**:

- Pay Rate: $30.66 per hour
- Non-taxable, $75 Health Care Spending Account for each month of contract

- 1 sick day for each month of contract
- 1 unpaid vacation day for each month of contract (black out dates: long weekends)

**Start Date**:May 20, 2025**
