**Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to**:
- Coordinates accident and incident investigations, including ensuring appropriate documentation is complete, submitted and action items are implemented in a timely manner
- Provides advice, guidance and resources on safety related matters to maintain compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and related legislation
- Coordinates and maintains the City’s Health and Safety Programs, including the oversight of the hazard prevention program, risk assessments and mitigation and training and education
- Develops health and safety policies, safe work procedures and guidelines in consultation with management
- Facilitates and supports the implementation of coordinated health and safety education and training, including in-house training or developing in conjunction with a third-party consultant
- Develops and coordinates the contractor safety management program
- Assists in the identification of hazards and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent future incident occurrences
- Assists with the planning and coordination of City-wide emergency drills and exercises
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field
- A minimum of three (3) years’ recent related experience in a safety practitioner’s role in a complex, unionized setting
- Considerable knowledge of labour relations related to OH&S issues
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Possession of or working toward Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is desirable
- BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Intermediate skills related to the Microsoft Office Suite, Human Resources Information Systems, WorkSafeBC Online Portal, and other computer-based programs
