We have an exciting and new opportunity for a Spatial Analyst, Resources and Rights to join the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator (CNSOER) as we are now responsible for the regulation of offshore renewable energy development in the Canada-Nova Scotia offshore area.
The CNSOER is in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and is the independent joint agency of the Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia responsible for the regulation of renewable energy and oil and gas exploration and development activities that take place in the Canada-Nova Scotia offshore area.
The Spatial Analyst, Resources and Rights, reports to the Director, Resources & Rights and is responsible for providing GIS analysis and mapping support at the CNSOER. This includes analysis of spatial datasets and the development and maintenance of the CNSOER WebGIS in ArcGIS Online. It also includes general data management, graphical support, data quality control and data loading of submitted spatial and geoscientific datasets. This position is also responsible for responding to internal mapping and information requests and external requests from government, industry and other interested parties.
**The responsibilities include**:
- Assist with the configuration and administration of the CNSOER WebGIS Organization
- Curate feature services, web maps and apps for CNSOER owned datasets and the integration of other open-source datasets.
- Performs integrated/advanced spatial and statistical analysis of spatial and attribute data from a diverse range of sources.
- Establish, maintain and manage access to all GIS databases.
- Prepare figures and assist with the preparation of various geoscience reports for the Resources and Rights Group.
- Prepare map-based figures on request for the CNSOER staff (e.g. engagement activities) and interested outside parties.
- Assist with legal land descriptions, reporting, mapping, administration and registration of offshore renewable and petroleum-related rights.
- Assist with updating and maintaining maps and information on the CNSOER website.
- Assist in drafting Resources and Rights documentation such as various correspondence, guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma from a Technical College (Geomatics stream).
- In-depth knowledge of GIS technologies
- Knowledge of ESRI’s GIS software suites, or a working knowledge of other GIS software packages.
- Knowledge of geological, geophysical, geotechnical spatial datasets
- Knowledge or experience with the offshore renewable and/or petroleum industries is considered an asset.
- Experience with graphical software packages such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or CorelDraw Graphics Suite is considered an asset.
