- Ensure all health and safety regulations are known, enforced and complied with and that precautions are taken in order to prevent potential hazards. Work with the Health and Safety Representative and Committee to improve safety and reduce accident potential.
- Work in compliance with all Nexans Standard Management Routines and Rules including Safety Golden Rules.
- Work with supervisors to meet or exceed the budgeted production outputs and look for opportunities to improve outputs and efficiencies, manage bottlenecks and track OEE for improvements.
- Work with Supervisors, QA, Engineering, Schedulers and machine Operators to identify production problems, initiate and implement corrective actions.
- Work with Supervisors to prioritize and control spending to ensure that the budget is met while achieving output targets and maintaining correct levels of production supplies.
- Work with Supervisors and Engineering to establish and improve machine output standards.
- Work with Supervisors to ensure that the plant is kept organized with good housekeeping, good 5S in order to provide a safe and productive workplace.
- Work with QA and Supervisors in order to ensure that high quality products are produced.
- Identify and eliminate potential quality problems. Implement and maintain a system that will recognize defects, identify appropriate corrective actions, and lead continuous improvement initiatives in Production.
- Hire, train, develop, and manage Supervisors to ensure that they are adequately fulfilling the responsibilities of their position.
- Provide support to Supervisors in their daily activities and communicate effectively to inform them on policies, procedures and grievances.
- Hold regular meetings with Supervisors to ensure consistency in all departments and develop and maintain relevant reporting and feedback mechanisms to the production department.
- Work with Supervisors to maintain good morale with the hourly employees and ensure a positive working environment in the plant.
- Participate in monthly Union/Management meetings, contract negotiations and grievance meetings.
- Work with Union executive to resolve issues as they arise.
- Use the continuous improvement process to drive change and obtain positive results, and track appropriate savings initiatives within scope of responsibility in the manufacturing platform.
- Actively support SAP skill development and adherence in Production to prevent/reduce SAP errors.
- Understand business goals and market trends and promote plant objectives.
- REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Well developed leadership skills with the ability to motivate, influence, coach and facilitate in order to interact effectively at all levels of an organization
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of production process of wire and cable
- Strong understanding of health and safety
- Good understanding of scheduling, materials management, costing and the product
- 3 - 5 years management experience in a manufacturing environment
- University degree in Operations Management / Engineering or Business preferred
- Strong labour relations experience
