The Coordinator will support the OII in building and strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities locally, provincially, nationally and internationally, and fostering an academic environment, where all students, staff, faculty and community members experience Western University as a welcoming, supportive, culturally-safe environment in which Indigenous languages, ways of knowing, being and doing are respected and supported. Key Goals of the Unit: The Office’s priority areas are: - strategic planning and implementation - communications and reporting - community engagement - policy development and practice - space planning and management - curriculum and training development - student affairs, access and recruitment strategies - faculty and staff recruitment and retention strategies - research and scholarship strategies **Responsibilities**: Western University, in close collaboration with Indigenous communities, will host a national forum aimed at advancing social and institutional transformation within Indigenous education, and the work of Truth and Reconciliation. The Indigenous Event Coordinator will coordinate and facilitate the event management, coordination, and implementation of all aspects of the Building Reconciliation national forum, including maintenance of the project budget. The forum is an initiative of Universities across Canada that is dedicated to exploring issues related to the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, as well as Indigenizing and decolonizing the academy. The role will oversee and manage the coordination of all relevant logístical details, such as collaboration with the planning committee, booking all transportation and accommodation needs, audio-visual requirements, furnishing/setup requests, invoicing, and catering requests. The role will coordinate the successful implementation of the forum, and ensure that all prescribed outcomes are achieved within budgetary limits. In consultation with staff in the Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII), the Coordinator will support program and event development, liaise with local Indigenous communities, communicate progress updates to stakeholders, and respond to inquiries related to the forum. **Key Accountabilities** - Facilitates the coordination and implementation of the Building Reconciliation National Forum, which will support participants in exploring critical issues related to universities’ response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and Indigenizing the academy - Manages the administrative, financial (approximate budget of $250,000), and all logístical planning associated with the planning for and the implementation of the forum - Responds to all issues related to the forum, including requests/ concerns from event attendees, room booking conflicts, etc. - Acts as the scheduling lead for Western, requiring consideration of all classrooms and event spaces available across campus - Acts as a key customer service-oriented contact to general forum inquiries, meeting room change requests and room space capacities - Responds to escalated issues related to the forum, including upset attendees, room booking conflicts, etc. - Acts as a senior resource in the registration centre for triaging all campus inquiries related to the forum - Acts as a point of contact for staff, faculty, students, committee members, local Indigenous community leaders and other stakeholders, providing information and assistance in response to inquiries - Provides relationship management, data management, and administrative coordination - Co-ordinates relevant services, including security, information technology, accessibility, community engagement, volunteers, signage, transportation, audio visual (AV), catering, on-campus accommodations, child minding, etc. - Recruits, trains, schedules and oversees volunteers - Liaises and collaborates with various support departments across campus to address challenges and ensure the required arrangements are made for smooth delivery of conference events (e.g. Facilities Management, Great Hall Catering, Housing, Parking, and Western Technology
