Positive Living Niagara - StreetWorks Outreach Worker
Full time (35 hours/week) - One permanent full-time; One 1-year Contract
To provide direct support services within the framework of the StreetWorks program. The harm reduction program aims to reduce the transmission of HIV and other blood-borne infections among people who use drugs, to engage clients and support them into testing and treatment services, and to provide individuals with harm reduction education and supplies.
**Responsibilities**:
Assist people who use substances navigate the social services system
- Work with other service providers to provide coordinated care
- Provide education to other service providers around harm reduction and break down stigma
- Provide evening outreach services
- Provide warm transfer of clients into a variety of treatment and support services
- Offer training on the use of Naloxone
- Provide verbal and written messages on HIV / AIDS, HCV and STBBI risk reduction
- Distribute harm reduction materials and information, including syringes, as per public health regulations and protocol
- Provide counseling or group support around addiction issues and mental health issues
- Support the lived experience program within the agency
The incumbent will adhere to the Mission Statement and Policy and Procedures of Positive Living Niagara and will represent Positive Living Niagara in a professional manner
**Qualifications**:
A college or university degree in social or health services with experience in addictions and mental health in the community social services sector, ideally within a harm reduction environment. The incumbent will hold a valid G driver’s license with a clear driving record a have access to a reliable vehicle. Experience living with or supporting someone with HIV/AIDS and/or substance use. Lived experience is an asset.
**Required Skills**:
- Experience and or training in substance use and mental health support and treatment
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Ability to show initiative
- Written/oral and computer skills
- Accurate documenting, reporting and recording
- French language skills an asset
