**A Day In the Life of a Payroll and Benefits Clerk**

Reporting to the head of payroll, the responsibilities and essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
**Payroll**:

- Assist in the preparation and processing of payroll (overtime, special payments, vacation, etc.) by ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Understand administrative principles and processes related to the payroll function.
- Preparing statements and conducting research for Employment Insurance.
- Answer questions from colleagues.
- Respond to requests from supervisors.
- Prepare records of employment.
- Assist in the preparation of reports during payroll processing.
- Always offer a professional, friendly and endearing service.
- Ensure compliance with the department's policies, procedures and service standards and company standards.
- Perform other related tasks and

**Benefits**:

- Administer employees’ enrolment, terminations and changes to the insurance benefit and retirement plans, life events and coverage changes;
- Responsible for collecting insurance premiums owed by employees on leave of absence;
- Deliver new hire onboarding sessions (benefits portion);
- Inform employees on the insurance benefits coverage, RRSP and retirement plans and acts as a single point of contact for employees’ questions;
- Communicate ongoing updates on the Group Insurance and Group Savings plans;
- Plan and execute re-enrollment campaigns and other communication campaigns pertaining to benefits and retirement plans.
- Assist with other relevant tasks related to benefits administration.

**Qualifications**:

- Diploma in accounting, specialization in payroll management or related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Member of the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) or in process.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required and essential in both French and English.
- Computer software proficiency such as Ultipro (Ultimate software) an asset.
- Relevant experience in customer service.
- Able to make decisions and set priorities.
- Communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Basic knowledge of accounting concepts an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills.
- Particularly responsible and reliable.
- Very high level of professional ethics and discretion
