Human Resources Generalist

**Position Purpose and Summary**
The HR Generalist builds positive working relationships with clients (faculty, staff and students) and delivers competent, timely and client-focused service. The HR Generalist works collaboratively with the TWU managers to source, select, and ‘on-board’ new staff employees, assists departmental managers and supervisors with position and compensation assessments, provides advice and coaching related to employee relations, and assists with organization restructure projects as required.
**Key Areas of Accountability**
**Talent Acquisition**
- Utilize job boards, social media, and other avenues to strategically source for talent.
- Maintain records of recruitment activity.
- Facilitate unique needs of new employees, including relocation arrangements.
- Manage immigration requirements of TWU employees and visiting academics.
**Employee Relations**
- On-board new employees, providing an initial HR orientation and liaising with hiring managers regarding a departmental orientation as applicable.
- Provide orientation and advice regarding leaves, extended health, tuition, Torch, etc. to TWU employees and managers.
- Provide advice related to performance, career development, etc. to TWU employees and managers.
- Off-board employees, providing exit interviews, discussing benefits transition, etc.
- Report claims to WorkSafe BC and advise Managers on occupational health and safety issues as needed. Work with Managers and WorkSafe BC to manage claims and support employees in an effective return to work.
- Assist in coordinating learning and development sessions.
**Work Force Planning and Contract Management**
- Work with hiring managers to create and evaluate new and/or revised positions.
- Coach managers on people management (i.e. developing others, performance management, conflict management, etc.) in collaboration with the Director, Human Resources Operations.
- Work with Director, Human Resources Operations and department leaders in reviewing department structures and reclassifying positions and compensation structures.
- Oversee contract management processes including contract renewals and changes. Maintain HR records in the HRIS system.
**HR Team Responsibilities**:
- Encourage and support the work of HR team members and serve as a ‘backup’ resource as needed.
- Coordinate and lead projects for the HR team as a ‘HR Practice Lead’ in specific areas of focus as agreed to with the HR Leadership team.
- Continuously improve knowledge and understanding of HR issues, strategies and tools to assist HR in achieving its development goals.

Standards & Requirements*
**Education**: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study required; Master’s level is an asset. Additional related professional or HR certification preferred such as CPHR Certification.
