Accounting Clerk Intermediate

**Job Description**:
**POSITION PURPOSE**
This position is responsible for performing various accounting and financial functions, such as reconciliation, journal entry preparation, developing working papers, etc. Also responsible for reviewing financial records and transactions for accuracy, completeness and ensuring compliance with the Region’s accounting policies, guidelines and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Reconciles and reviews various general ledger accounts and resolves discrepancies as appropriate.
- Prepares working papers along with supporting documents for management review.
- Makes calculations, documents, and prepares journal entries, and completes follow up verification of processing for accuracy and timeliness. Identifies and corrects errors or omissions.
- Maintains accurate and current accounting and financial records, including updating and maintaining records in the appropriate system.
- Maintains records in the appropriate format and in accordance with Regional standards.
- Completes timely, accurate data account reconciliations for general ledger accounts assigned and completes data input as per standardized data format.
- Reports issues to senior staff and/or management and assists in resolving concerns, as appropriate
- Responds to inquiries and liaises with staff or refers to appropriate staff for follow up.
- Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
- Participates on committees, work groups, task forces and special projects, as assigned.
- Manages information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Successful completion of a Post Secondary Certificate (1 year or more) in Accounting or Business or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of general office and accounting procedures and records management.
- Mathematical aptitude and analytical skills applicable to various financial and accounting functions.
- Demonstrated ability in the Region’s core competencies.
- Intermediate skills in virtual platforms and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to connect with a range of internal and external stakeholders while focusing on fostering collaborative work relationships.
- Strong ability to develop relationships and work in a welcoming and inclusive environment, where diversity is celebrated and where everyone can develop to their full potential.
