New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.
**Mentor Landlord (ML) **is a program within Child Home Services; one of the many services offered by New Directions. In the Mentor Landlord model, youth get the opportunity to experience living in the community and develop independent living skills with individualized supports in place. The landlord has a dual role: regular landlord and mentor. The idea is for the landlord to be supportive and role model how to do some life skills (e.g., plan meals, manage budget, problem solve difficulties, connect with community members, etc.) but not intrusive or parental; to give enough time for the youth to settle and develop the skills to manage with supports and clear feedback rather than provide authoritative directions, enter into conflict, or evict.
Responsibilities include: (but are not limited to)
- Ongoing training and development of support workers and Home Supervisors
- Attend monthly clinical consults
- Case management
- Main point person for all youth/child correspondence with social workers and outside resources/school, planning etc
- Resource referrals
- Maintain and update case notes, reports and other administrative tasks as assigned
- Review incident reports and address concerns
- Participate in monthly team meetings
- Participate in the On-Call rotation
Qualifications:
- Applicants must have post-secondary education in a related field. B.S.W. /B.A. is considered an asset
- Preference will be given to individuals with related social services education with a minimum of 4 years’ experience
- Related experience may include some or all of the following working with individuals who may have Intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, mental health issues, individuals with a history of trauma, individuals who struggle with autism spectrum disorder, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder
- Ability to transfer knowledge and awareness into behaviors and expectations recognized as appropriate by members of identified cultures and by people with lived experience
- Experience in case management and carrying a case load
- The ability to be energetic, creative with excellent time management and organizational skills
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency using computers including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with access to a vehicle
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is considered an asset
The salary range for this full-time 70-hour biweekly position is $26.28 to $33.90 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience. A full benefits package (which includes Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability Benefits, and Pension Plan) is provided for this permanent position.
