**Position Summary**

The Clinical Physiology Laboratory (CPL) is an academic research organization comprised of internationally recognized thought leaders in cardiovascular and pulmonary medicine and clinical investigation. The CPL specializes in managing clinical trials in cardiovascular and pulmonary medicine from study design through to manuscript publication. The CPL involves researchers from the University of Alberta, as well as national and international collaborators. The CPL is affiliated with a global collaboration of coordinating centres, academic investigators, and thought leaders. The Research Coordinator position will work under the direction of the Team Lead, Clinical Trials and Laboratory and will be responsible with assisting various research studies.

**Duties**

General Activities

This position is a mid-level position located within a collaborative research environment. As such, the Research Coordinator will lead the activities listed below, and will consult with the Team Lead, Clinical Trials Laboratory and Project as appropriate.

**Research Responsibilities (50%)**
- In conjunction with the Principal Investigator, Team Lead, and other members of the research team, assists with protocol development, and associated plans and materials
- Provide assistance with the development of study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), ethics guidelines and other applicable regulatory requirements
- Assist with project monitoring and communicate project resource requirements to the Team Lead as necessary
- Proactively anticipates project issues and develops strategies for resolution
- Work with team members and provide expertise on laboratory setup

**Scientific Responsibilities (50%)**
- In conjunction with the Team Lead, identifies, evaluates and recruits research participants for various projects and clinical trials
- Assist with the organization of research data and provide necessary reports to key stakeholders
- Analysis of computerized physiological data including preparation of summary data
- Prepare reports to communicate results to individual participants
- Work with other research staff to coordinate the completion of research tasks
- Provide training support for students entering research data and working with patients
- Ensure research study documents are up to date
- Provide day-to-day organization of the study or studies, including monitoring timelines, scheduling appointments, responding to questions from participants or investigators, booking facilities
