The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing the full payroll cycle for a construction company with multiple divisions, crews, and project sites across Manitoba. The Payroll Manager will also manage processes to handle field complexities such as varying pay rates, overtime rules, and seasonal layoffs/recalls.
Payroll Processing & Compliance
· Manage and oversee bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees.
· Calculate and process bonuses, overtime, premiums and living-out allowances (per diems).
· Handle seasonal layoffs and Records of Employment (ROEs).
· Reconcile payroll remittances.
· File and distribute T4s, T4As, and year-end payroll reports.
Maintain and optimize payroll system (Viewpoint Spectrum).
· Prepare payroll reports for Finance and Project Managers, as requested.
· Ensure accurate GL coding and reconciliation of payroll-related accounts.
Employee Relations & Support
· Act as the primary contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees and supervisors.
· Provide guidance on payroll policies, deductions, benefits, and earnings statements.
Leadership & Process Improvement
· Supervise and mentor payroll staff; ensure cross-training for business continuity.
· Develop and implement payroll procedures, internal controls, and audit processes.
· Stay current on legislation changes, CRA updates, and industry practices in construction payroll.

Diploma or degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, required.
· PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) required; CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) preferred.
· 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
· Previous experience in construction payroll strongly preferred.
· Experience with project/job costing and field-based payroll systems, an asset.
· Proficiency in payroll and accounting software – knowledge of Viewpoint Spectrum, a definite asset.
· Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
