Primary Focus

The Finance Clerk is accountable for processing and maintaining accurate accounts payable and staff expenses, and for ensuring all related financial policies are followed. They are also responsible for accurate and timely transactions and financial reconciliation, and to provide complete financial records to management.

What do the daily responsibilities look like?

On any given day, the Finance Clerk will:

  • record, match, and process company expenses, including employee expense claims and accounts payable invoices, as they are received
  • ensure all necessary supporting documentation and approvals are obtained, and verify financial codes for accurate entry into the financial system
  • process the weekly payment run (EFTs , bill payments, and wire transfers) and prepare all supporting documentation
  • maintain the Accounts Payable email inbox, providing timely and professional responses to inquiries
  • administer the corporate credit card program monthly, which includes coordinating the issuance of new cards, ensuring timely payment of card balances, monitoring charges across all cards, cancelling cards as necessary, and reconciling the monthly travel credit card for the organization
  • document, update, and provide interpretation of internal financial policies and procedures, as required
  • keep accurate and up-to-date files by ensuring documents are electronically filed in accordance with internal guidelines
  • participate in special projects that impact the financial system or processes, while continuously seeking to improve processes and policies by identifying inefficiencies and recommending enhancements
  • provide short-term coverage for team members during periods of leave.

Is this the right role for you?

The Finance Clerk will likely have:

  • completion of post-secondary education in a relevant area such as Business Administration or Commerce and no less than 2 years working in a similar role (an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered)
  • working knowledge of principles and practices related to accounts payable and employee expense claims
  • experience engaging and collaborating with internal partners and external vendors
  • excellent oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • experience working collaboratively, prioritizing, and balancing multiple competing tasks effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • a respectful, approachable, and team-oriented approach, while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment
  • strong knowledge and experience with the following computer software programs:
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • MS365.

What will set you apart?

The following is considered an asset qualification:

  • experience with SAP Concur and/or Sage 300.

While written and verbal communication skills in English are required, fluency in French is an asset.
