Essential Qualifications (Knowledge, Skill, Experience)

  • Membership/eligibility for membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology)
  • Previous clinical experience working with the geriatric mental health population, inclusive of Long Term Care including such conditions as depression, dementia, mood/affect disorders
  • Knowledge and experience in providing education and training using adult learning principles to care providers and others in a variety of settings including long-term care and community settings
  • Knowledge and experience in best practices related to the management of mental illness, dementias and behavioural problems, including use of effective practice in therapeutic modalities inclusive of cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Advanced skills in geriatric mental assessment, care planning and interventions
  • Previous experience in community outreach work with geriatric persons with mental health issues
  • Experience in the provision of family, client, and community education on mental health including establishing and mentoring groups in mental health populations
  • Experience in working with community resources for finances, placement, housing and recreational activities
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license and reliable vehicle required as clinical services are outreach/community-based
  • Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification
  • Satisfactory attendance
