Hiring the Position of Child and Youth Worker

**Responsibilities**:
Under the general supervision of the Principal - Special Education, the Child & Youth Worker will:
Provide support to individual students and staff through a self-regulation and problem-solving approach;
Assist, Develop and participate in meeting the mental wellbeing, social, emotional and behavioral goals for students;
Provide support in collaboration with students, teachers, parents and other school board support services;
Participate in and facilitate school based team meetings to support the holistic development of the student;
Attend and participate in meetings and liaise with community agencies as determined by needs of the student;
Participate in quality training for addressing student wellbeing in the school board;
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills

Completion of a three-year Community College program specific to Child and Youth Worker.

3 years work related experience.

Must be a current member of the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC).

Knowledge of relevant legislation and the developmental needs of children/youth and past practice of group facilitation.

Self-starter with strong, organizational skills and the ability to manage caseload duties.

Ability to deal with students in a calm, compassionate and professional manner.

Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing (formal and informal communication and documentation regarding the needs, progress and recommended behaviour management strategies).

Demonstrated proficiency using computer technology, report writing.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (dealing in a courteous manner with students, parents, teachers and community partners).

Maintain confidentiality (recognizing the sensitive nature of the information).

Valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G); daily access to personal transportation.
