Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Life & Experience, the Student Life & Experience Coordinator is responsible for supporting all programming, student staff, projects, and resources designed to enhance the Laurier student experience. The incumbent will focus on implementing programming and services related to enhancing the student experience including, upper year social programming and support, and special project support within the Dean of Students Office.
The incumbent will be required to collaborate with various departments and organizations across the university to enhance the Laurier student experience.
Occasional travel to other campuses and regular evening work will be required.
Accountabilities
Student Programming
- Coordinate the development of regular programming to meet the needs of senior students
- Promote existing campus partner programming to the broader student population
- Coordinate a senior student Welcome Day
- Coordinate the Keep Calm and Study On exam preparedness program in collaboration with Student Success
- Coordinate and facilitate involvement in legacy multi-campus events such as Homecoming, Concerts, Thrive Week, etc.
- Develop engaging and tailored programming initiatives for the mature and transfer population, including orientation week events and transition programming
- Develop a programming and support plan for family members and student supporters
- Support the planning of Dean of Students events
- Actively seek out opportunities to collaborate on programming and events for the campus community
- Lead the planning and facilitation of the Winter Orientation program
Student Leadership Development
Recruit, hire, develop, support, evaluate and coordinate student staff and student volunteers
Chair regular student team meetings and coordinate one-on-ones to increase student staff development
- Coordinate successful onboarding of student staff and volunteers, including the creation of training materials, performance evaluations, and student staff/volunteer appreciation
Research & Assessment
Develop evaluation measures to capture the successes and challenges of all programming offered within the Student Experience department.
- Advocate for improved programming and event resources on campus, maintain a comprehensive inventory of supplies for the campus community
Communication & Administration Support
Develop accurate and up-to-date website content for the department’s website presence
Create content, monitor and frequently post to the social media accounts
- Implement creative and innovative ways of promoting and informing students of programs and events
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, and minimum 2 years related work experience in Student Affairs
Demonstrated knowledge of advising and working with students at a post-secondary institution
Excellent interpersonal communications skills, empathy, and responsiveness
Effective organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to deal with high pressure situations with tact and diplomacy
Proven ability to facilitate and evaluate large- and small-scale programming, including virtual programming
Excellent word-processing and data entry skills using appropriate computer software including Excel and Word
Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and experience completing independent and team tasks
Experience coaching/ mentoring students; handling confidential information; and developing and teaching training sessions and workshops
Required to regularly work weekday evenings and weekends for programming and events
- Strong project management skills and demonstrated completion of projects with multi-stakeholder involvement in a complex environment
Hours of Work
This is a full-time, continuing position. Regular hours of work are 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility in hours will be required due to programming and events. When possible the manager will adjust hours so that no more than 35 hours are worked in a week.
Compensation
Level: E
Rate of pay: $41.09 to $43.44 per hour with an annual step progression on anniversary date up to $46.96 per hour.
Considerations for new hire step placements include, qualifications and length/depth of required experience, relevant market rates for similar jobs, internal equity, and estimated learning curve in starting the job.
