**Position Profile**

Reporting to the Manager, Residence and Community Life, the Residence and Community Life Assistant (RCLA) is immersed in facilitating student life programming for St. Jerome’s University (SJU) students. This is a live-in position that shares the residence on-call responsibility with other Student Affairs staff. The incumbent will provide on-site support and mentorship to all students and relevant student leaders and respond to community needs as necessary. The RCLA is also responsible for oversight of student activities leadership teams. As a unit, the Residence and Community Life team will enhance leadership and learning engagement opportunities within the residence and student community at SJU.

**How will you contribute as the **Residence and Community Life Assistant?**

**Student Life Involvement and Student Leadership**
- Supports day to day student life and student life programming and activities including the coordination and implementation of key annual student-focused events
- Works with Student Affairs team members to help Student Leaders coordinate student life programming that supports and encourages academic enrichment, personal development, and the community involvement of all students
- Supports the development and learning of student leaders through training and mentoring

**Residence Operations**
- Assists with key residence processes, including move-in and move-out.
- Meets and facilitates regular student activity team meetings and brings items of note to the attention of residence staff.
- Works with the Residence and Community Life team to ensure residence expectations are followed
- Shares responsibility for after hours on-call support for the residence community and responds to student issues and emergencies that may include, but are not limited to: mental health support, facilities and maintenance concerns, and substance use related matters.

**Working Conditions**
- This is a full-time position working standard business hours that can be flexed to accommodate events and programming (including weekends and evenings) based on the student life schedule.
- This is a live-in position. The incumbent is provided with a private suite containing a bedroom, living room, washroom, and kitchen as part of their compensation

**As a successful Residence and Community Life Assistant you have**:

- Completion of Post Secondary Education Required
- An understanding of the First-Year university experience, and student transition and ability to relate with and connect to young adults
- Student leadership experience in residence and/or student life programming
- An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it relates to student life
- Demonstrated experience with software programs such as Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, complaints, and student issues, while exercising good judgment, discretion, and maintaining confidentiality
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Presentation and group facilitation/training experience
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and as a member of a team
- Training such as ASIST, SafeTALK, Mental Health First Aid, First Aid and CPR is an asset
- Ability to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check
