Job Summary

The Alma Mater Society of UBC Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will be responsible for leading a team of cooks and ensuring the smooth operation of our food preparation and cooking activities.

Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Team Management: Supervise and manage a team of 5-10 cooks, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful completion of tasks and projects.
  2. Culinary Operations: Maintain records of food costs, consumption, and inventory. Analyze operating costs and other data to inform menu planning and kitchen operations.
  3. Menu Planning and Development: Create new recipes and menus, ensuring that they meet the high standards of quality and presentation expected by our clients.
  4. Training and Development: Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food. Identify areas for improvement and provide training and coaching to staff.
  5. Client Relationships: Consult with clients regarding weddings, banquets, and specialty functions, ensuring that their needs are met and exceeded.
Requirements
  • 3 years to less than 5 years of experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership role.
  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
