About the Opportunity

The Department of Public Works is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all personnel involved in the maintenance and construction of our province's infrastructure. As the Area Inspector (Safety Inspector), you will play a crucial role in supporting health, safety, and environmental initiatives across various projects.

Your Responsibilities

In this position, you will:

  • Participate in JOHSE meetings and contribute to toolbox discussions, ensuring action items are addressed.
  • Coordinate and deliver health, safety, and environmental training sessions.
  • Manage new employee orientations related to health and safety.
  • Organize and maintain safety documentation and files.
  • Track and report on bi-weekly safety metrics.
  • Conduct incident investigations and recommend follow-up actions.
  • Promote the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) and assist in implementing safety practices.
  • Support the promotion of departmental health, safety, and environmental programs.
  • Assist in conducting building and site inspections, as well as hazard assessments.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A high school diploma and a minimum of five years of relevant experience in construction, industry, or transportation.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and experience in occupational health and safety committees.
  • Familiarity with the OHS Act and Environmental Act.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.
  • Certifications in Temporary Workplace Signing, First Aid, and WHMIS.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Working Conditions

This role involves both office and fieldwork, exposing you to various environmental conditions. You must be prepared to work in diverse settings, including construction sites, and be capable of using personal protective equipment as required.
