Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled Network Analyst I to join its team. As a key member of the Network Infrastructure Services unit, this role will be responsible for providing second-level technical, operational, and administrative support for UBC's network infrastructure and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consult with users to determine technical support requirements for network systems, including monitoring network activity and troubleshooting and diagnosing network problems.
  • Monitor facilities capacity requirements, schedule requests for bandwidth, and adjust bandwidth on a daily or weekly basis.
  • Assess network performance to ensure it meets present and future needs of the enterprise.
  • Assist in the development of disaster recovery plans and execute network test plans.
  • Analyze user requirements, prepare equipment specifications, and install and configure or reconfigure network components.
  • Implement network security procedures and predetermined software or hardware changes to rectify any security issues.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as Computer Science or Engineering.
  • CCNA or other similar advanced technical certification in routing, switching, or network security.
  • Minimum of three years' experience supporting enterprise LAN/WAN, large campus networks, network operations, network security, and network management.
  • Ability to multitask, balancing multiple streams of work, prioritizing workload based on management direction, and working under pressure to resolve challenges and meet project deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience working in routing and switching, network security, network monitoring, management, analysis, and orchestration systems, support systems, and scripting.
Preferred Qualifications

Desirable knowledge includes:

  • Routing and switching: BGP, BGP/MPLS, policy routing, redistribution, multicast; IPv4 and IPv6.
  • Network security: various firewall technologies, AAA, ACLs, device hardening, IDS/IPS, port scanning, vACLs, best practices.
  • Data centre: network technologies.
  • Service provider: MPLS.
  • Problem resolution of issues through packet capture and analysis and other tools.
  • Software-defined networks.
