Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled Network Analyst I to join its team. As a key member of the Network Infrastructure Services unit, this role will be responsible for providing second-level technical, operational, and administrative support for the university's network infrastructure and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consult with users to determine technical support requirements for network systems, including monitoring network activity and troubleshooting and diagnosing network problems.
  • Monitor facilities capacity requirements, schedule requests for bandwidth, and adjust bandwidth on a daily or weekly basis.
  • Assess network performance to ensure it meets present and future needs of the enterprise.
  • Assist in the development of disaster recovery plans and execute network test plans.
  • Analyze user requirements, prepare equipment specifications, and install and configure or reconfigure network components.
  • Implement network security procedures and predetermined software or hardware changes to rectify any security issues.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of routing and switching, network security, and network monitoring and management systems. A minimum of three years of experience in a similar role, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. The candidate should also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as Computer Science or Engineering. CCNA or other similar advanced technical certification in routing, switching, or network security. Experience working in a large campus network environment, with a strong understanding of network security and performance.
