Job Title: LTO EA Level B - Educational Assistant

We are seeking a qualified Educational Assistant to join our team at the Waterloo Region District School Board. As an Educational Assistant, you will provide support to students with special needs, work collaboratively with teachers and other staff members, and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs, including academic, social, and emotional support
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to ensure a smooth and successful learning experience
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment by promoting respect, empathy, and understanding
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a child-related field (e.g. education, child and youth work, social work)
  • Minimum 6 months of experience working with children, preferably in a school setting
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) training
  • Lifting/Positioning training
  • Behavioral Management Systems certification
  • Experience working with students with special needs and behavioral disabilities
