About the Role
We seek a skilled Claims Specialist with expertise in resolving severe and complex accident and injury claims efficiently. As a Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating, and resolving assigned claims according to Best Practices. Your primary focus will be on delivering high-quality claim handling and excellent customer service while managing indemnity and expense responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate each ABI claim through prompt and strategic contact with relevant parties to determine liability, damages, and contribution potential.
- Conduct interviews with witnesses and stakeholders; take necessary statements as strategically appropriate.
- Verify the extent of injury or damage by obtaining and reviewing relevant records and damages documentation.
- Maintain accurate and detailed claim files, documenting all activities according to established procedures.
- Proactively review Claim Files for Adherence (CFAs) to ensure quality standards and trend analysis.
- Utilize diary management to ensure timely claim resolution.
- Evaluate liability and damages exposure at regular intervals and establish proper indemnity and expense reserves.
- Recommend cases for discussion at roundtable and participate in authority discussions for collaboration of technical expertise.
- Actively share experience and knowledge of creative resolution techniques to improve claim results.
- Apply Company claim quality management protocols, Best Practices, and metrics to all claims, documenting rationale for any departures.
- Develop and implement creative resolution strategies.
- Promptly manage claims within delegated authority, including negotiation of disposition with insureds and claimants or their legal representatives.
- Recognize and implement alternate means of resolution.
- Manage litigated claims, developing litigation plans with staff or panel counsel, and controlling legal expenses.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should possess extensive claim and/or legal experience, along with the technical expertise required to evaluate severe and complex claims. You must be able to make independent decisions on most assigned cases without supervisor involvement and demonstrate coaching, influence, and persuasion skills.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- University/College Degree or equivalent business experience preferred.
- Comprehensive working-level knowledge and skill in various business line products.
- Strong negotiation and customer service skills.
- Able to adapt to cultural change and support it effectively.
- State insurance adjusting license (where applicable) and ongoing satisfaction of continuing education requirements.
- Familiarity with computer technology, including Microsoft Office, email, web-enabled applications, and database software.
- Ability to accurately compute numerical calculations.
