The OpportunityThis is an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Underwriting Specialist to join our team in Calgary. As a key member of our underwriting department, you will be responsible for a portfolio of automobile risks and will have the opportunity to develop your skills further.
You will leverage your broad broker network and in-depth underwriting knowledge of all automobile products regionally and nationally to grow your book of business.
- This role requires proactively seeking renewal and new account opportunities, qualifying accounts to meet with our appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity, and making agent/broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
- Additional responsibilities include cross-selling other lines of business to increase product density with the account, engaging in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date, updating required systems with details of broker/client visits and account status within specified time frame, serving as key contact for assigned target accounts, developing strong broker and client networks, measuring exposure/analyzing risk, assisting in training and developing staff, providing expertise on coverage issues with claims programs and guidelines, ensuring the successful completion of projects by maintaining continuing dialogue with business unit sponsors during implementation of major projects, diagnosing and developing recommendations to solve unique business unit and customer problems, leading complex technical or long-term (over 6 months) business projects to implement new or changed systems, programs or products, investigating, recommending and implementing leading edge technical solutions when they meet customer needs.
- A High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR a Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR a Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business, and experience working in a team environment are also essential.
We estimate the annual salary for this position to be around $95,000-$105,000 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications.
