About the Role

The Development Officer, Planned Giving and Special Projects will play a key role in the Advancement team at Saint Mary's University, working closely with the Director of Philanthropy to develop and implement strategies for planned giving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement strategies for planned giving within a diverse fundraising environment.
  • Consult and collaborate with development staff to develop annual goals and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with Advancement Services and Financial Services to ensure proper financial measures are maintained.
  • Identify, evaluate, cultivate, and solicit planned gift prospective donors.
  • Solicit annual and major gifts through face-to-face meetings.
  • Have strategic involvement in all aspects of the donor cycle.
  • Write proposals, letters, and other donor correspondence.
  • Communicate with legal experts on charitable trust laws.
  • Provide language for gift agreements and wills.
  • Ensure gift agreements meet donor intent.
  • Assist with donor recognition and stewardship programs.
  • Work with communications staff on promotional materials.
  • Carry out special projects in support of fundraising campaigns.

Requirements

  • University degree and demonstrated fundraising experience.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in fundraising.
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) is an asset.
  • Proven prospect management skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
  • Above-average interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capability with MS Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel.
