Job Summary

The Ontario Medical Association is seeking a highly skilled Strategic Liaison for Government Relations and Advocacy to join our team. This role will play a critical part in supporting the implementation of our plans to influence key decision-makers in government and stakeholders through effective advocacy.

About the Role

As a Strategic Liaison, you will provide administrative support to the government relations team, including coordinating meetings with external offices and internal staff, arranging travel schedules, and maintaining meeting calendars. You will also develop and review briefing notes, presentations, and other materials to support external and internal meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with external offices and internal staff to arrange meetings between the OMA and MPPs, political staff, ministry officials, stakeholders, physicians, and physician leaders.
  • Provide general administrative support to the government relations team, including initiating routine and non-routine correspondence, maintaining meeting calendars, and arranging travel schedules.
  • Develop and/or review briefing notes, presentations, and other materials to support external and internal meetings.
  • Note-taking at internal and external meetings, including with elected officials.
  • Coordinate internal cross-functional meeting logistics.
  • Support all activities related to the execution of the OMA's government relations and advocacy strategy, including but not limited to MPP and political party outreach and tracking, drafting newsletters, organizing small and major events.
  • Maintain and develop contact management systems, including lists of OMA physician health care advocates, stakeholders, and other supporters.
  • Assist the government relations and advocacy team with monitoring, analysis, and summaries of relevant legislation, regulations, and policy announcements.
  • Provide support in reporting to senior executives and the OMA Board on government relations activities and metrics.
  • Provide support and project management as needed to the government relations & advocacy team in day-to-day activities, research projects, and overall team organization.
Requirements
  • Degree in Political Science, Communications, or community college programs in public affairs or equivalent.
  • 3-4 years of administrative experience.
  • Experience working at Queen's Park for an MPP or Minister or volunteering for a political campaign is an asset.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills to deal with multiple tasks across different activities.
  • Excellent written skills with superior attention to detail, including the ability to draft documents and review and edit materials of team members.
  • Strong interest and knowledge of Ontario politics and the political process.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare policy and stakeholder environment is an asset.
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Working skills in Smartsheet are an asset.
