Job Summary
The Privacy and Access Council of Canada (PACC-CCAP) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Freedom of Information and Privacy Specialist. This specialized position involves overseeing the daily operations of the City's Privacy Management Program to ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).
Key Responsibilities
- Handle information requests and interpret and apply FOIPPA regulations
- Review and analyze complex data for release and recommend information disclosure or withholding
- Draft all necessary documentation, including Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), policies, and procedures related to FOI requests
- Collaborate with other departments, external organizations, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC)
- Provide information, advice, and training to staff and the public on FOIPPA regulations
Requirements
- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by commercial courses preferably FOIPPA courses supplemented with FOI training, plus considerable related experience
- Considerable knowledge of the legislation, rules, regulations, practices, and procedures governing applicable departmental operations and activities
- Ability to interpret and apply the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, regulations, and Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner
- Ability to develop, recommend, and upon approval, establish policies and procedures related to the work
- Ability to make decisions in the light of established precedents and to exercise resourcefulness in dealing with new situations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to provide advice, information, and assistance to same
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
