Freedom of Information Specialist

As a key member of the Privacy and Access Council of Canada team, the Freedom of Information Specialist will play a vital role in ensuring the City's Privacy Management Program operates in compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA). This specialized role involves overseeing daily operations, handling information requests, interpreting and applying FOIPPA regulations, and drafting necessary documentation.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee the daily operations of the City's Privacy Management Program
- Handle information requests and interpret FOIPPA regulations
- Review and analyze complex data for release, recommend information disclosure or withholding, and draft necessary documentation
- Assist in drafting and reviewing Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), policies, and procedures related to FOI requests
- Collaborate with other departments, external organizations, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC)
- Provide information, advice, and training to staff and the public on FOIPPA regulations
- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by commercial courses preferably FOIPPA courses supplemented with FOI training, plus considerable related experience
- Considerable knowledge of the legislation, rules, regulations, practices, and procedures governing applicable departmental operations and activities
- Ability to interpret and apply the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, regulations, and Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner
- Ability to develop, recommend, and upon approval, establish policies and procedures related to the work
- Ability to make decisions in the light of established precedents and to exercise resourcefulness in dealing with new situations
