About the RoleThis 6-month part-time position, working between 14-28 hours per week, offers a competitive hourly rate of $42.87 plus 15% in lieu of benefits. You will be responsible for enforcing building codes and associated acts, reviewing permit applications, performing inspections, and responding to public inquiries.
The ideal candidate will possess 2 years of experience in building and plumbing inspection, sustainable building standards, and Level 1 BOABC and POABC Certification. Excellent communication skills are essential for conveying information to the public, professionals, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Enforce Compliance
- Monitor inspection areas for building activity.
- Issue Stop Work Orders, Removal Orders, and Demolition orders as necessary.
- Recommend bylaw contravention notices be placed on property titles.
- Address public complaints and implement required resolutions.
- Create and maintain accurate records of inspection decisions.
- Communicate inspection results with building owners, Registered Professionals, and tradespeople (as required).
- Monitor current files for scheduled inspections and deficiency corrections.
- Grant approval for use once all permit conditions have been satisfied.
- Evaluate business operations for compliance with relevant zoning and building bylaws.
- Conduct site visits.
- Stay up-to-date with advertising and bylaw updates.
- Journeyman level certificate in a related trade.
- Proficiency in MS Office and computer database software such as Vadim.
- A valid BC Driver's License with a safe driving record.
