Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Facilities Maintenance Worker to join our team at the University of Toronto. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and dust furniture, floors, hallways, stairways, and ledges using authorized and appropriate materials and equipment.
  • Recondition floors as required, including stripping, refinishing, scrubbing, spray buffing, buffing, sealing, and other related floor care duties.
  • Clean washrooms, including sinks, walls, and partitions, toilets, urinals, mirrors, floors, metal fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and faucets.
  • Collect litter from floors and waste/compost from receptacles, emptying into janitor carts, removing garbage/recycling from buildings, and depositing into waste bins or compactors.
  • Clean carpets as required and remove spots/stains from surfaces as needed.
  • Wash windows and walls, including partition glass.
  • Move and reset furniture when necessary to complete work.
  • Make beds for residence guests in residence operations when necessary.
  • Clean blackboards, whiteboards, and other writing surfaces as directed and replenish supplies as required.
  • Replenish paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and sanitizers to receptacles within washrooms and utility kitchens and other areas as needed.
  • Change light bulbs and clean fixtures as required.
  • Clear exterior entrance ways of buildings of debris and garbage.
  • Clean exterior entrance pads and podiums using power washing equipment.
  • Assist in snow removal when necessary.
  • May periodically assist with set-ups for special events and exams.
  • Clean escalators and elevator interior and exterior.
  • Lock and unlock doors as directed.

Requirements:

  • Completion of tenth grade or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of related work experience is desirable.
  • Physical ability to perform duties described and to use indicated equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written).

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
