Job Title: Accounting Associate

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Associate to join our team at Winnipeg Airports Authority. As an Accounting Associate, you will be responsible for processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank ledger transactions. You will also assist the Corporate Analyst in reconciliations for all subsidiary operations and prepare monthly journal entries related to subsidiary organizations and related party transactions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process invoices and assign AP coding or confirm agreement to purchase order coding.
  • Determine and distribute invoices for signature to appropriate budget holders.
  • Enter invoices into accounting system ensuring two-way matching.
  • Review invoices for proper tax calculations and self-assess PST where applicable.
  • Review and respond to outstanding vendor statements.
  • Responsible for vendor set-up and maintenance.
  • Prepare recurring monthly journal entries, pay revisions, payroll accruals, subsidiary management fees, and other intercompany entries.
  • Prepare daily bank entries and record transactions for three subsidiary companies.
  • Prepare account reconciliations for several G/L accounts, including accrued liabilities, accrued revenue, prepaid expenses, AR/AP subledger, and corporate Amex & VISA account reconciliations.
  • Invoicing for subsidiary company revenue contracts, including safety management services, airport management contracts, and miscellaneous ad-hoc billings.
  • Monthly call-out billings, cheque deposits, and cash receipt entries.
  • Follow up with customers on outstanding receivables.
  • Manage customer relationships and requests.
Requirements:
  • Two years (minimum) of accounting or finance experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and methods and experience working in a computerized environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices with ability to maintain financial records and perform basic reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (currently using Microsoft Dynamics NAV).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office Suite applications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards considered an asset.
