The Alma Mater Society (AMS) of the University of British Columbia is seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Interim Vice President, Academic & University Affairs. This position plays a crucial part in leading the Academic & University Affairs portfolio and representing the student body.

This role will be managed by the AMS President, who oversees the day-to-day activities of the Executive as a whole to ensure the fulfillment of their duties and responsibilities. The Interim Vice President, Academic & University Affairs will be responsible for lobbying the University on issues of interest to students, assisting constituents with academic and other issues between them and their Faculty or School, and liaising with organizations at the University representing various groups concerning University affairs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lobby the University on issues of interest to students;
  • Assist Constituencies with academic and other issues between them and their Faculty or School;
  • Liaise with organizations at the University representing faculty, sessional lecturers, teaching assistants, and non-teaching staff concerning University affairs;
  • Be the Society's liaison with the University's Board of Governors and the UBC Vancouver Senate;
  • Manage the VP AUA staff;
  • Work in alignment with the AMS mission statement and values;
  • Perform other duties as outlined in AMS Code and Bylaws, and as assigned by Council or the Executive Committee from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Must be a currently registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated colleges;
  • Knowledge of AMS club and constituencies;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Comfort working in a technical environment;
  • Professional conduct;
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and meeting deadlines;
  • Knowledge of AMS fiscal procedures and policies is an asset;
  • Advanced knowledge of computer and technological skills.
