About the Role

Douglas College is seeking a qualified contract instructor to teach introductory open-enrolment and music program-specific courses in ethnomusicology and popular music studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach music courses to students, including those taking arts electives;
  • Plan, organize, and manage learning activities, maintaining quality learner-centred instruction;
  • Engage with local musicians to create an inclusive and diverse musical experience in the classroom;
  • Assess and evaluate students' progress and achievement;
  • Maintain currency in the field through professional development activity;
  • Holding regular office hours for students.
What We're Looking For
  • An advanced degree in a field related to music (Doctorate preferred, minimum Master's Degree);
  • A record of successful teaching at the post-secondary level;
  • A demonstrated ability to work with a population of diverse learners;
  • Strong connections with diasporic music communities in the region or strong involvement with one or more popular music styles;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and self-directedness;
  • Awareness of Indigenization and Reconciliation practices in post-secondary institutions and/or performing arts pedagogy;
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $52.41-$114.65/hour. Per three-credit course, the actual salary will be based on the number of credits and term of appointment according to the Collective Agreement.
