Job SummaryThis is a full-time opportunity to join our team as a Sport Science Instructor - Lab Facilitator. The successful candidate will provide instructional and research support to students, faculty, and staff, while developing internal and community partnerships.
About the RoleAs a Sport Science Instructor - Lab Facilitator, you will be responsible for providing lab instruction and demonstrations related to college sport science courses. This includes:
- Providing orientation and instructional support on specialized lab equipment to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Preparing materials for use in the Sport Science Lab, subject to curricula approval of the Sports Science faculty.
- Maintaining access to equipment in the Sport Science Lab and ensuring it is properly maintained and in good working order.
You will also be responsible for evaluating student work and performance in relation to laboratory requirements, preparing materials for use in the lab, and performing other related duties.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will have the following key responsibilities:
- Laboratory Instruction and Demonstration: Provide lab instruction and demonstration for Sport Science courses, including supervision of open lab environments.
- Evaluation of Student Work: Evaluate written work submitted by students and their performance in the lab in relation to laboratory requirements of SPSC courses.
- Preparation of Materials: Prepare materials for use in the lab, subject to curricula approval of the Sports Science faculty.
- Other Related Duties: Perform other related duties, such as scheduling and testing internal and external clients on basic fitness tests, gathering specifications for future lab purchases, and performing routine clerical duties.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Degree in Sport Science or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary educational institution and one or two years of lab experience in a sport or activity-based area.
- In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of fitness assessment and prescription.
- Good working knowledge of course content, operation, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus, and modern techniques pertaining to the instruction of science courses.
- Some knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), html programming, as well as common sport, fitness, analytical software/databases.
- Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal).
- A demonstrated ability to instruct students and public clients professionally and effectively, communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing, and over the telephone with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and the public, work in a team environment, as well as work independently with minimum direct supervision to establish priorities and achieve deadlines.
We offer a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits including comprehensive health and dental coverage, extended health care, life insurance, paid time off, and retirement savings plan.
