Our products are used in various sectors, including construction, mining, manufacturing, automotive, shipbuilding, and energy. We are transitioning to electric arc steelmaking technology, positioning us as one of North America's leading producers of green steel.

The Role

We are seeking a Business Partner to collaborate with all levels of employees, providing best practice knowledge and ensuring compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements, Employment Agreements, policies, and legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel and assistance on issues impacting culture, including training and interpretation of legislation, company policies, and employee conduct rules.
  • Partner with client groups on various processes, such as job design, organizational structure, and lines of sequence.
  • Offer coaching and guidance on conflict resolution, attendance management, goal setting, performance management, succession planning, talent management, organizational change, and discipline.
  • Assist in facilitating positive labour relations between the company and unions, providing counsel to managers and supervisors on grievance processes and administration.
  • Conduct investigations, summarize findings, and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare for and attend arbitration cases as required.
  • Assist with contract negotiations by researching issues and providing relevant information and support.
  • Lead recruitment and onboarding efforts to source quality individuals to support Algoma's needs.

Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma in HR or Business Administration, or equivalent work experience.
  • HR/LR experience in a unionized industrial/manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Labour/Employment legislation.
  • Experience interpreting and advising on Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with improving systems and processes.
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience with MS Excel and PowerPoint, SAP.
