Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Indigenous Relations Director to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our Indigenous Relations team and providing executive support to the Indigenous Director.

Key Responsibilities

The Indigenous Relations Director will be responsible for:

  1. Providing leadership to the Indigenous Relations team and ensuring that all aspects of the Skabes and Knowledge Keepers day-to-day scheduling and activities are implemented and overseen.
  2. Coordinating and monitoring cultural programs across various departments within Main Street Project.
  3. Ensuring that all programs and activities are peer-directed and contribute positively towards advancing Main Street Project's strategic plan.
  4. Maintaining a culturally safe and secure environment where people feel safe and draw strength in their identity, culture, and community.
  5. Supporting community members by ensuring a skilled and collaborative staff environment that can successfully offer de-escalation, crisis intervention, counseling, case management, client grievance/dispute resolution, outreach, and other service activities as necessary.
  6. Working effectively with Indigenous, Red River Metis, and Inuit partner agencies and coordinating work and activities towards the best outcomes for participants across the organization.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. A post-secondary education in a related field or relevant skills combined with Indigenous cultural experience.
  2. Experience in a supervisor or management position, specific to health care or human services (an asset).
  3. A person of Indigenous ancestry with strong Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racist lens.
  4. Awareness of the various Indigenous, Red River Metis, and Inuit governance systems and processes.
  5. Actively engaged in cultural development.
  6. Ability to consult traditional Knowledge Keepers when needed.
  7. Strong skills in staff supervision and implementation and development of policies and procedures.
  8. Familiarity and ease working with issues related to colonialism, poverty, homelessness, substance use, mental health, and trauma.
  9. Ability to proactively create culturally safe workplaces and participant experiences, including coaching others.
  10. Strong ability to create and develop successful collaborative relationships with program participants, staff, and other stakeholders.
  11. Ability to apply Harm Reduction and Housing First philosophies in their day-to-day work and interactions.
  12. Knowledge of the effects of poverty and the detriments of health.
  13. Deep understanding of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous, Red River Metis, and Inuit People.
  14. Knowledge of TRC Calls to Action, Royal Commission on Aboriginal People, MMIWG Call to Justice, UNDRIP, and key reports that could or should inform MSP work.
  15. Addition languages (Indigenous) considered an asset.
  16. Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities an asset.
  17. Strong commitment to Main Street Projects Core Values: Reducing Harm, Truth and Reconciliation, Anti-Oppression, Trauma-Informed.
  18. Effective written and oral communication skills with people from varied backgrounds.
  19. Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office; ability to learn and use program-specific software, including HIFIS.
  20. PHIA and NVCI certifications considered an asset.
  21. Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and a Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required.
  22. Valid Driver's License.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
