Job Summary

The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our Hydro Mechanical Services Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing advanced mechanical work and system diagnostics in support of diesel generation and hydro generation, as well as associated balance of plant equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, generators, and auxiliary equipment to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostics to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues, and implement corrective actions to prevent future problems.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of maintenance schedules and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate standards.
  • Collaborate with other team members to achieve team goals and objectives, and provide guidance and training to junior technicians as needed.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to all safety protocols and procedures, and reporting any hazards or incidents to management.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of diesel engine technology, including manufacturer's manuals and technical specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, management, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination and execution of work activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic with three years' experience at the journeyperson level in an industrial or commercial setting.
  • Valid NWT Class 5 driver's license or equivalent required.
  • Must undergo a successful criminal background check.
  • Excellent knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and propose solutions.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications of a variety of types of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form.

  • Competitive hourly rate ranging from $45.15 to $54.86, plus a location allowance of approximately $6,184 per annum.
