Job Summary
The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our Hydro Mechanical Services Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing advanced mechanical work and system diagnostics in support of diesel generation and hydro generation, as well as associated balance of plant equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, generators, and auxiliary equipment to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical problems, both on-site and over the phone, to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of our Health & Safety program, Environment program, and NTPC's safety culture.
- Collaborate with team members to determine generation program objectives, provide input to group financial and program planning, and assess and coordinate unit workload and priorities.
- Complete and/or assist with scheduled overhauls in a timely and professional manner, adhering to Corporation and Manufacturer standards.
- Conduct routine trips to remote satellite plants for inspection, preventative maintenance, installation, and repairs to equipment, as well as complete various tests as required.
- Prepare and submit accurate reports, including trip reports, equipment reports, and parts lists, to ensure compliance with CMMS program requirements.
- Provide guidance and training to operational staff for troubleshooting large gas or diesel engines, as well as assist other trades and contractors as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring compliance with all safety programs, health and safety legislation, and Corporation Safety Rules.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
- Journeyperson Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic with three years' experience at the journeyperson level in an industrial or commercial setting.
- Valid NWT Class 5 driver's license or equivalent required.
- Must undergo a successful criminal background check.
- Ability to diagnose problems and propose solutions, interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications of mechanical equipment, and communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
- Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.

The Northwest Territories Power Corporation offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental benefits, long-term disability, life insurance, paid sick days, and a defined benefits pension plan. We also provide relocation assistance and a competitive salary range of $45.15/hr.-$54.86/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $6,184 per annum.
