The Senior Legal Counsel reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and provides expert guidance on all legal matters, supporting strategic leadership on business development and commercial activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the CFO and existing legal team to develop strategies for all business development and commercial matters.
  • Create standards and processes for drafting agreements, mitigate contractual risks, and align business processes with contractual obligations.
  • Support the company's interests in all legal proceedings, including litigations, arbitrations, and hearings as required.
  • Evaluate the firm's operations to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, managing legal risks effectively.
  • Provide guidance and support to legal staff on all legal inquiries and requests.
  • Analyze regulatory and contractual issues, reviewing applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Source external legal support and manage contractual relationships as needed.
  • Maintain and build strong relationships with clients, ensuring their legal needs are met with professionalism.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Law (LLB) from an accredited Canadian university and current membership with the Law Society of Alberta.
  • A Master of Business Administration (MBA) would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent business acumen and understanding of commercial agreements.
  • Solid analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
