Program Lead, Volunteer Engagement Specialist

As a key member of our Customer Care team, you will play a pivotal role in elevating the volunteer experience for our current volunteers and attracting new ones. Central to this position is the management and coordination of United Way's Poverty Simulations, as well as supporting the growth of United Way's Cabinets through the administration of Cabinet operations, including events planning, broad communications, recruitment strategies, and the onboarding and offboarding of all Cabinet volunteers. The role also delivers the Mentoring for Success program, recruits and coordinates volunteers for various volunteer-led United Way activities. Additionally, this role seeks opportunities to highlight United Way's volunteer engagement activities, support organizational recruitment priorities, and enhance brand awareness through participation in local community events and volunteer fairs.

About the role:

  • Collaborates with Product and Marketing team to oversee the volunteer management and event coordination of volunteer-led community/public events.
  • Actively pursues opportunities that highlight and showcase United Way's volunteer engagement offerings and coordinate efforts for participation in local community volunteer events and fairs to support recruitment strategies, organizational needs, and increase brand awareness.
  • Supports the Program Manager, Volunteer Engagement in exploring partnership opportunities to increase brand awareness, visibility, and community support.
  • Leads the volunteer lifecycle for cabinet members; including onboarding, supporting, and offboarding.
  • Organizes and delivers all aspects of the Mentoring for Success program for Sponsored Campaign Representatives (SCRs) including recruiting mentors, sourcing and securing consultants/facilitators to deliver workshops, program scheduling and logistics, preparing/creating supporting materials, on-going and final program evaluation, and planning the final wrap session event.
  • Coordinates and leads volunteers for Poverty Simulation events.
  • Facilitates Cabinet engagement through key functions including communications, engagement events planning, and support, recognition and meetings support & hosting and projects related to cabinet strategic plan deliverables.
  • Supports administrative functions for annual Cabinet recruitment strategies.
  • Updates cabinet role profiles and terms of reference annually.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots the Cabinet Portal (SharePoint site).
  • Provides support to Women United, GenNEXT, and ReUnited Cabinets by assisting associated staff partners with Cabinet operations.

About you:

You are a skilled relationship builder who thrives in developing engaging relationships through trust, teamwork, and communication. You enjoy keeping things organized and have experience managing multiple projects.

You enjoy problem solving and are comfortable gathering, analyzing, and interpreting and utilizing all kinds of information in decision making. You are known for demonstrating accountability and striving for an excellent customer experience.

You have a knowledge of MS Office and databases (we use Salesforce) and are comfortable in a digitally focused environment.

Your background includes a post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Social Sciences, Humanities or related field plus a minimum of two (2) years to three (3) years of related experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

A valid driver's license and vehicle are required as some travel will be involved within Edmonton and the surrounding area. Availability to work on some occasional evenings or early morning is required.
