SCOPE
This position is located in Inuvik and reports directly to the Regional Manager, Highway Operations. The incumbent manages the implementation of a variety of capital projects and major O&M projects for the Department, including highways, airports, and marine facilities, and related infrastructure. The incumbent advises on highway maintenance operations from an operating budget of approximately $3.9 million for the delivery of highway maintenance programs to approximately 547 kilometers of regional public highway system.

The employee will be a member of various project management teams assembled to meet the needs of specific programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to develop and analyze short and long-term construction projects.
- Ability to manage construction projects throughout all stages of development (planning to completion).
- Knowledge of Northern soil conditions, environment, and construction practices.
- Supervisory experience.
- Excellent communication skills demonstrated by written work and verbal presentations.
- Field work requires physical abilities to work in an outdoor environment to observe, survey, inspect, travel, and direct staff and contractors.
REQUIREMENTS
- Civil Engineering Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology Supervisory Training.
- Class 5 NWT Driver's Licence.
- Design and construction experience - 4 years for Degree holders, and 8 years for Diploma holders or longer depending on knowledge and skills required.
- Highway Design Experience in AutoCAD Environment.
- At least one year of experience supervising staff in a cross-cultural setting.
