Job Summary


The University of Waterloo is seeking a dedicated Indigenous Student Wellness Navigator to join our team. As a key member of Campus Wellness, this role will provide direct support and guidance to Indigenous students, ensuring they have access to culturally relevant health and wellness services.



About the Role


This position involves providing individualized support and care planning, conducting risk assessments, and facilitating traditional healing and wellness programs for Indigenous students. The successful candidate will work closely with the Office of Indigenous Relations, providing proactive support and collaboration on traditional healing and wellness practices.



Responsibilities


The Indigenous Student Wellness Navigator will be responsible for:



  • Synergizing mental health and wellness services with academic and personal success initiatives for Indigenous students
  • Conducting individual appointments, risk assessments, and supporting students in accessing health and mental health services
  • Providing pre-, post-appointment support, connecting students with cultural community resources, and facilitating traditional healing and wellness programs
  • Responding to crisis situations, maintaining clinical case notes, and coordinating discharge planning and referrals
  • Designing and delivering seminars and training sessions on Indigenous wellness topics, including medicine wheel teachings and culturally specific workshops


Qualifications


To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in social work or a related field, along with training in life promotion, crisis intervention strategies, and case management. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in relationship-building within Indigenous communities, working with individuals experiencing mental health crises, and supporting traditional healing practices.

The University of Waterloo offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, ranging from $65,000 to $90,000 annually.
