Youth Care Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Care Specialist to join our team at Coast Mental Health. As a key member of our rehabilitation program, you will play a vital role in supporting young individuals with mental health challenges to achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and lead PSR programming and activities that promote recreation, leisure, and life skill development.
- Provide daily housekeeping and cooking duties, as well as support youth residents with their assigned daily chores.
- Assist youth residents in identifying their strengths and needs, and connect them with relevant resources to achieve their goals.
- Model healthy lifestyle habits and provide opportunities for youth to develop their own life skills, self-care practices, and coping strategies.
- Communicate effectively and resolve conflicts in a respectful and collaborative manner.
- Support youth residents in developing self-esteem and decision-making skills through role modeling and other techniques.
- Assist clients in accessing formal and informal community supports related to leisure, vocational, education, and other areas.
- Observe and record the physical and mental health status of clients, and take necessary actions.
- Advocate for clients to maintain their rights and dignity.
- Work collaboratively with clients, peers, supervisors, other agencies, and relatives.
- Develop individual and group programming that engages youth and promotes skill development, meaningful connections, and improved quality of life.
- Ensure all requirements of the QWIK process and administrative tasks are completed accurately and within allocated timeframes.
- Use formal and informal assessment practices to develop individualized care plans.
- Distribute medications safely in accordance with medication policies and procedures.
- Ensure the implementation of program maintenance, housekeeping, and cooking tasks.
- Report and address health and safety issues as they arise.
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned.
- Maintain records as required.
Requirements
- Diploma in Child & Youth Care, Community Social Service Work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Recent, related experience of two years.
- Ability to provide/obtain required certifications, including First Aid + CPR, WHMIS, FoodSafe, Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Clearance, Non-violent Crisis Intervention training, TB Clearance, Immunization Records, and BC Driver's License.
