About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Care Specialist to join our team at Coast Mental Health. As a key member of our community-based rehabilitation services, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental illness to achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementing PSR programming and activities that promote recreation, leisure, and life skill development.
  • Completing daily housekeeping duties and tasks, such as cooking dinner and supporting youth with their daily chores.
  • Supporting youth residents to identify their strengths and needs, and assisting them to access resources relevant to their individualized goals.
  • Modeling life skills and strategies to maintain a healthy lifestyle, while providing opportunities for youth to develop their own life skills and self-care practices.
  • Communicating effectively and modeling appropriate conflict resolution skills to build rapport with clients.
  • Providing support, information, and tools to help residents develop self-esteem and decision-making skills.
  • Assisting clients to identify their strengths, needs, and goals, and gain access to formal or informal community supports related to leisure, vocational, and education.
  • Observing and recording the physical and mental health status of clients, and taking necessary actions.
  • Advocating for and with clients to encourage them to maintain their rights and dignity.
  • Working collaboratively with clients, peers, supervisors, other agencies, and relatives in a cooperative and professional manner.
  • Developing individual and group programming that engages youth and provides opportunities to broaden skills, develop meaningful connections, and improve overall quality of life.
  • Ensuring all requirements of the QWIK process and administrative tasks are completed accurately and within allocated timeframes.
  • Using formal and informal assessment practices, such as interviews, to develop individualized care plans that detail clients' areas of need and/or interests.
  • Distributing medications safely in accordance with medication policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring the implementation of the program's maintenance, housekeeping, and cooking tasks.
  • Reporting and addressing health and safety issues/concerns as they arise.
  • Performing administrative tasks, as assigned.
  • Maintaining records as required.
  • Fulfilling any other functions/duties that may develop in conjunction with the above.
  • May be asked to direct students and volunteers.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
