The Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) is a leading organization dedicated to equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression while protecting and enhancing public education. We are seeking an experienced Legal Counselor for Workplace Safety and Insurance to join our team.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing sound advice, guidance, and representation before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and/or the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting merit reviews of WSIB/WCB cases, conducting legal research, and preparing written briefs and submissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting merit reviews of WSIB/WCB cases and providing practical advice to the organization.
  • Conducting legal research and interviewing clients and witnesses.
  • Preparing written briefs and submissions.
  • Preparation for and conducting appeal hearings before the WSIB, WSIAT.
  • Analyzing and organizing research and information.
  • Scheduling and coordination of meetings.
  • Organizing and maintaining legal files.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A minimum of two (2) year College Diploma in Law.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent verifiable experience working as a Paralegal or in a related field.
  • Strong legal research skills and knowledge of medical terminology and human rights legislation.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work under pressure within strict deadlines.
