Job Title: Human Resources Assistant

Job Summary:

The Human Resources Assistant provides administrative support to the Human Resources team, ensuring the smooth operation of HR functions and programs. This role requires a high level of discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Human Resources team with day-to-day tasks and responsibilities in a unionized workplace
  • Organize and participate in the recruitment process, including interviews, references, and criminal record checks
  • Coordinate on-boarding, orientations, and training for new hires
  • Coordinate employee recognition, retirement, and service awards
  • Coordinate professional development training for employees
  • Assist with the implementation and/or maintenance of HR functions, such as EDAS, SDS, and Attendance Management initiatives
  • Provide support to employee wellness
  • Assist with the administration of employment contracts for support staff, facilities staff, and other staff as directed
  • Coordinate and support investigations as required
  • Coordinate and support the Job Evaluation process

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Holds a CPHR designation or working towards designation
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service skills, and professionalism
  • Ability to be thorough, accurate, and exercise high-level attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Applications (Office 365, Word, Excel) at an intermediate level
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to deal with people in a courteous, calm, and effective manner
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve them
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work, exercising strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, including the ability to plan and follow-up on projects
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to use sound judgment and tact in exercising independent action
  • Proven ability to make reasoned decisions and recognize sensitive situations and the impact of potential solutions

About School District No. 57:

School District No. 57 resides on the unceded ancestral lands of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nations, McLeod Lake Indian Band, and the Simpcw First Nations. Geographically, we expand from Mackenzie, through Prince George, to McBride and Valemount. We serve 41 schools: 32 Elementary schools, 8 Secondary schools, and 1 District Learning Support center for alternative and alternate learning opportunities.

We provide educational programs for approximately 15,000 students, inclusive of early learning, after-school art and sports programming, trades programs, and dual credit programs with our local post-secondary schools. We support Lheidli T'enneh students, McLeod Lake students, and Takla students living on reserve through our Local Education Agreements. With each Nation, we co-construct the educational services provided to the students while attending a school within our school district.
