About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled Kinesiologist to support a community-based health initiative focused on wellness and health programming. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other provider groups and services to offer programming and support.

Reporting to the Provincial Chronic Disease Management and Wellness Health Services Lead, Primary Health Care, the successful candidate will utilize behavior change methods and client-centered approaches to provide physical activity counselling and facilitate physical activity wellness programs. The incumbent will work in a team-focused environment, collaborating with Primary Health Care staff, family physicians, and community groups to provide guidance and support for clients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for physical activity program development, implementation, and evaluation, and must possess excellent leadership skills. The incumbent will also be a member of an inter-professional team, collaborating with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participate in the evaluation of team effectiveness, solve problems, and share responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement physical activity programs for clients with chronic diseases
  • Provide physical activity counselling and education to clients
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to provide comprehensive care
  • Conduct program evaluations and make recommendations for improvement

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from an accredited university
  • Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) designation
  • One year of related experience working in a Primary Health Care setting or community-based team
  • Valid driver's license and daily access to a reliable vehicle

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in partnership development, stakeholder collaboration, and community development
  • Experience working with people living with chronic conditions
  • Understanding of population health, health promotion strategies, and behavior change principles
